Del. Hurst cited several examples from Virginia that have influenced his decision to submit his student journalist bill.

“Taking care of you guys (reporters) is my number one priority. This is not about me. It’s about you.” Del. Roem says.

Del. Roem says she has bipartisan support this session for a shield law. That’s a difference from last year, she says.

Del. Hurst says he was intimidated and threatened as a reporter when reporting stories with anyoymous sources. “Pressures are there. They are there every single day.”

Del. Roem is discussing her bill that would establish a shield law for reporters in Virginia; 40 other states have a shield law.
