Metro Herald, minority paper of more than 25 years, shuts down

The Metro Herald, a weekly minority newspaper of more than 25 years in Alexandria, announced earlier this week that the paper would cease publication.

The paper’s last issue was in February. Publisher Paris Davis told staff this week that there would not be another issue going forward.

RTD launches new subscriber feature

The Richmond Times-Dispatch has announced the addition of a new feature geared at enhancing digital subscriptions.

In addition to exclusive access to certain articles and galleries, “Subscriber Plus” members will also have pages loaded faster and see fewer advertisements, Tom Silvestri, publisher of RTD, wrote in a news release earlier this week.

Silvestri went on to state that the addition of “Subscriber Plus” is another step in the paper’s move toward a more subscription-driven business model.

“In this environment, our future ability to produce great journalism hinges increasingly on subscriptions – on individuals who understand and appreciate The Times-Dispatch’s value,” Silvestri wrote.
