Longtime Pilot editors bid farewell
Two editors from the Virginian-Pilot worked their last day at the paper last week, ending more than a combined 65 years of work in the Norfolk newsroom.
Bill Henry and Carl Fincke are leaving the paper. Fincke had been with the Pilot for 40 years. Henry had been with the paper for 28 years.
In a goodbye party at the Pilot, Henry delivered some parting words to his colleagues about the mission of a newspaper.
“I really think we shouldn’t over think it,” Henry said. “To me, what we do is we help people understand and know about and appreciate the world they live in a little better today than they did yesterday. That’s about as well as I can sum it up.”
WaPo launches new daily podcast
The Washington Post has joined other major national newspapers in creating a “flagship” daily news podcast called, “Post Reports.”
The podcast launched its first episode Monday and will run Monday through Friday, with new episodes available at 5 p.m. (EST) each of those days.
Episodes will be around 20 minutes long and feature headlines, observations and behind-the-scene looks at how some of the Post’s biggest stories were reported.
“This is not an audio rendition of the homepage, it’s the best rendition of the Post for an audio platform” said Madhulika Sikka, executive producer of Post Reports. “In addition to offering a deep look at the news, we are pulling back the curtain on The Post’s reporting and presenting the breadth of The Post’s work to create an informative, interesting and entertaining listening experience.”
Martine Powers, who has been with the Post since 2016, is the host of Post Reports.
