Virginia Commonwealth University—Two Instructor Positions (Full-Time, Non-Tenure-Track)

The Richard T. Robertson School of Media and Culture at Virginia Commonwealth University invites applications for two full-time, non-tenure-track, term faculty positions at the rank of Instructor. This is an exciting time to be at VCU and a great opportunity to join our forward-thinking School. VCU is one of the nation’s premier urban, public research universities. With more than 31,000 students, it is one of the largest universities in Virginia. The Robertson School is accredited by ACEJMC and has approximately 1,000 students. Teaching assignments will be primarily at the undergraduate level. In all courses taught, the faculty member should reflect the School’s commitment to teaching excellence, community engagement, and cultural diversity.

Candidates for the positions below must have: (1) a master’s degree in the specialty area applied for (i.e., advertising or journalism) or in a related field; (2) a proven track record of inspiring, guiding, and mentoring others to reach their full potential; and (3) high expectations for students. Successful college teaching experience is highly preferred. Teaching load for either position is four classes per semester. We will recruit candidates with demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.

Advertising (position 1)

Candidates should excel in at least one area of innovative brand communications. Ideal candidates will have expertise in multiple areas:

  • Big data and analytics
  • Mobile
  • Interactive
  • Social content and strategy
  • User experience design, research, and/or strategy
  • Search
  • Augmented and virtual reality
  • Artificial intelligence
  • Programmatic media and attribution

Journalism (position 2)

Candidates should be able to teach courses in writing, editing, and storytelling across media contexts and platforms. Ideal candidates will have:

  • Extensive newsroom experience
  • Ability to teach innovative multimedia and digital skills
