Roanoke Times: Reporter
Reporters aspiring for greatness under the watch of a tough-as-nails veteran editor, keep reading. One of America’s great newspapers, The Roanoke Times, is searching for a relentless journalist to fill a multi-faceted beat in Southwest Virginia’s New River Valley. Duties include coverage of the 10,000-student Radford University, the growing New River Community College, the City of Radford and Pulaski County. This reporter also could be called upon to assist our Virginia Tech reporter on investigative, trend and other stories that would incorporate Tech and other colleges and universities in the Roanoke and New River valleys. We want a journalist with the skills and passion to do it all, turn daily and mid-range stories as well as projects with equal aplomb. We are not interested in candidates who always have wanted to try journalism. We are looking for serious, dedicated journalists with strong training and work to back it up. If you think you’re right for the job, please send a sharply written cover letter, resume with references and three of your best writing samples to Managing Editor Lee Wolverton at email@example.com.
Please include the text of your samples in your application along with online links to the stories. The subject line to your email should read: “NRV Reporter.” Hint: Following instructions shows you are serious about this job and we should be serious about you.
