Virginia Lawyers Weekly is looking for a News Editor who would enjoy reading the latest cases and writing about the law for lawyers across the commonwealth. The News Editor is a lawyer/editor who assumes the lead role in the newsroom for identifying and developing news stories for Virginia Lawyers Weekly and its publications. The News Editor identifies and recommends to the Publisher potential special projects or new editorial features that will enhance the coverage and reach of the operation. This position will be available on May 1, 2021.
The ideal candidate is an experienced and versatile lawyer/journalist who will take the lead role in our newsroom for identifying and developing news stories. Candidates should have a keen interest in covering the law and courts and in following trends in the business and practice of law. The news editor will develop statewide beats, develop sources throughout the state and originate story ideas. He/she will review new court decisions for newsworthiness. The ideal candidate will have news judgment, curiosity, and an understanding of the news and data needs of the legal market.
Candidates need to know how to use social media and to think creatively about how to present information on the web.
