JOB SUMMARY: Write compelling,timely and well-sourced stories that accurately reflect the nature of the community or beat the reporter covers. This should be a combination of daily stories and projects undertaken in conjunction with a supervisor.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Write compelling, timely and well sourced stories that accurately reflect the nature of the community or beat they cover. This should be a combination of daily stories and projects undertaken in conjunction with a supervisor. Ensure that photo and graphics assignments are filed early in the information gathering process and that presentation elements are considered for each story. Sharing stories with convergence partners and writing breaking news for websites. Take part in continuing education programs sponsored by the newspaper or approved external educational/professional institutions. Undertake any project or story as assigned by their supervisor.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Must be able to makedeadline decisions under pressure. Must be able to prioritize stories into lists and undertake the most important. Must exhibit excellent news judgment and be able to determine the best sources for each story. Must be able to budget time in an efficient manner. Must be able to collaborate with multimedia partners.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited college or equivalent experience is required. One- two years experience a smaller newspaper is preferred. Internships at larger papers and strong college newspaper experience highly regarded.
Must be able to read and analyze instruments.
Must be able to follow and understand verbal instructions.
Be able to walk frequently throughout the day.
Must be able to operate various tools.
Must have sufficient physical flexibility for maintenance tasks.
