Valley Banner announces closure
The Valley Banner, a weekly newspaper of more than half a century in Rockingham County, announced this week that it will publish its last issue on June 7.
The paper, along with five other newspapers, was sold by Byrd Newspapers to Ogden Newspapers of Virginia last month.
Cameron Williams, a regional publisher for Ogden Newspapers, said the Daily News Record will be “doubling down” on their coverage of Rockingham County to fill the coverage void created by the Banner‘s closure.
“It is an unfortunate reality that we cannot continue to operate publications that don’t have an audience capable of supporting them,” Williams said.
