Virginia Press Women Announces Communications Contest Winners

Virginia Press Women, Inc., the state affiliate of the National Federation of Press Women, presented awards for excellence in communications at its annual conference held at the Robert Russa Moton Museum in Farmville, April 5, 2014. The Sweepstakes winner was Marty van Duyne with News Net News.

Three daily newspapers, three non-daily newspapers and one specialty publication have been named the winners of the Virginia Press Association's first grand prize sweepstakes awards for overall excellence in news and advertising. The awards were presented April 5 at the association's annual meeting, held in suburban Richmond.

News Leader's Williams, Currid win Best in Shows for 'Losing Norah'

"Losing Norah," the story of a Waynesboro child battling brain cancer, was the winner of two best-in-show awards in the Virginia Press Association's annual news contest, presented April 5 at the association's annual meeting in suburban Richmond.

The story was written by Megan Williams and photographed by Katie Currid, members of the staff of The News Leader in Staunton, and won the best-in-show awards for daily writing and daily photography.
