Is it required that we leave photos and other sidebar items on electronic reprints of articles, or is it acceptable to remove them in order to reflow articles for ease of reading? I’ve seen guidelines that indicate both, so I’m not sure. Thanks.

The rules say to leave photos, graphics and other visuals on the writing submissions. However, they will not be considered by the judges.
