Professional Development Survey

The Board of Directors, the Professional Development Committee and the staff of the Virginia Press Association want to hear your thoughts on VPA’s Virginia Newspaper Academy workshops.  Your input is valuable to us in planning the schedule for 2008-2009.

We are seeking responses from the publisher and the advertising director of each member publication.  If another member of the staff is a more appropriate respondent, please forward a copy of this survey to that person.  All responses to this survey will be used by the professional development committee to design the 2008-2009 Virginia Newspaper Academy training schedule.  The VPA Board of Directors will review the results of this survey at their next board meeting on March 14.

Thank you for your participation.  Please complete this survey and e-mail to Kim Woodward at , or fax 804-521-7586 by February 15, 2008.  If there are questions or concerns, you may contact Kim at 804-521-7574.

What are your greatest training needs in 2008?

How can VPA help you meet those needs?

VPA offers about 20 workshops a year with training for reporters, editors, advertising sales, management, photography, multimedia and design.  If you could change anything (or everything) about the Virginia Press Association’s – Virginia Newspaper Academy workshops, what would you do?  OR Are you okay with the training program in its present form?

If your publication participates in training workshops with VPA what makes it valuable and attractive to you and your staff?  If your publication is not participating in training programs with VPA, what would it take to have participation from you and your staff?

Nearly all of the training workshops are at VPA headquarters in Glen Allen because of its central location.  But if these workshops were offered close to your home would that increase your participation?

How important is it for your publication to know of workshops held by VPA almost 10 months to a year in advance?

Who should VPA contact about training opportunities at your publication?  Please list name and e-mail address.
