The Houston Chronicle, the Star Tribune in Minneapolis, and the San Francisco Chronicle joined national news outlets The NYTimes.com USAToday.com in the top 5 for time spent at their sites for August.
Only half the newspapers gained in time spent per person in August compared to the same period a year ago. But it should also be noted that that many newspapers in the top 30 experienced a surge in unique users for the month. Typically, the average time spent per person goes down as the number of unique users goes up.
