About the VPA

The Virginia Press Association was founded in the late 19th century and incorporated by a special act of the Virginia General Assembly in 1881.

We represent newspaper interests in the General Assembly through lobbying efforts and facilitate print and online advertising campaigns for our members. We also hold one of the largest news contests in the nation, annually attracting more than 5,000 entries.

Our Mission, Purpose & Values

The mission of the Virginia Press Association is to support our membership through responsive services and resources. We champion the common interests of Virginia newspapers and the ideals of a free press in a democratic society.

We connect our members through valuable business services, effective representation, practical communication and information, and relevant education and recognition. Values important to the work of the VPA are fairness, dedication, integrity and honesty.
